1. Who we are

The controller responsible for personal data collected through getbrightnesscontrol.com is Matthew E. Fitzpatrick, trading as Brightness Control, 16802 Bowen Ct, Williamsport, MD 21795, United States. You can reach us by email at contact@getbrightnesscontrol.com or by telephone on (213) 964-4172.

2. What we collect

Information you give us. If you contact us, we receive your email address or telephone number and whatever you choose to put in your message.

Information collected automatically. Our hosting provider records standard server log data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring page, pages requested, and the date and time of each request. This is used to operate and secure the site.

Information from cookies. With your consent, analytics and advertising cookies collect information about how you use the site and which pages you visit. Details are in the cookie policy.

We do not ask for or knowingly collect payment details, government identifiers, health data or any other special category data.

3. Why we use it

  • To provide the site — serving pages and keeping them working. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
  • To keep the site secure — detecting abuse and attacks. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
  • To answer your messages — responding to what you send us. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, or performance of a contract where relevant.
  • To measure audience — understanding which guides are read. Lawful basis: consent.
  • To display advertising — including personalised advertising where permitted. Lawful basis: consent.

4. Third parties

We use service providers who process data on our behalf or as independent controllers:

  • Our hosting provider, which stores server logs.
  • Google, for audience measurement and advertising, where you have consented. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads. You can review Google's practices at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and control ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own independent marketing.

5. International transfers

Some providers process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where data leaves the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, transfers rely on the safeguards permitted by law, such as standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.

6. How long we keep it

Server logs are retained for up to 12 months. Correspondence is kept for up to 24 months after the matter is closed. Cookie-based data is retained for the periods set out in the cookie policy, and your consent choice is stored for six months.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to processing, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing already carried out. Residents of California and certain other US states have comparable rights, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.

To make a request, email contact@getbrightnesscontrol.com. We respond within one month. If you are in the EEA or UK and you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to your national data protection authority.

9. Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes

We update this policy when our practices change. The date at the top shows the current version, and material changes are announced on the site.

10. US state privacy rights

If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may request access to the personal information we have collected about you in the preceding 12 months, request its correction or deletion, and opt out of the use of your information for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. Using cookies to serve personalised advertising may nonetheless count as “sharing” or “targeted advertising” under some of these laws; rejecting advertising cookies on this site opts you out.

You may also authorise an agent to make a request for you, and we will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights. Send requests to contact@getbrightnesscontrol.com.
